We’ll be joined by a very special guest and Cal Alumni, Hodari Davis.

Hodari Davis is a militant intellectual and futurist who’s poetic tongue and renegade speech is known all over the world. His revolutionary pedagogy and critical engagement practices are informed by the radical philosophies of Paulo Freire and the Pan African humanism of Alaine Locke.  He is an expert in Youth Development, Anti Racism, De-colonial Education, Future Forecasting, and African American children.

Hodari is known for his years as the Executive Producer of the most renowned youth poetry festival in the world The Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam. He is also known for his work on the Bigger Picture Project, an award winning campaign to stop the type two diabetes crisis in young people, and has been featured in several documentaries including most recently In Defense of Food and Globesity.

He and his wife leverage entertainment, technology and art in the practice of education to challenge common approaches to teaching and learning.  They have traveled, presented, and performed at Conferences, Festivals, and Universities all over the world, including in Europe, the Middle East, the Caribbean and extensively in Africa.  They share years of experience as radical educators and as administrators of both for profit and nonprofit ventures. Included in this work is the award winning youth performance ensemble Young Gifted and Black, and the highly sought after professional consulting and development work of E4E Consulting all under the banner of Edutainment for Equity.

Hodari is also currently a faculty member at the Institute for the Future in Silicon Valley, a 3rd year doctoral student in the school of education at UC Davis and the father 6 children.
